For Fourth of July weekend, we took a two-night trip to Seaside, Oregon. It's probably the most touristy town on the Oregon coast, but it's ultimately a small town with a beach boardwalk, and a "main drag" with candy shops, small diners, and family-oriented arcades with games, mini golf, a carousel, and other rides.
We've been to Seaside many times, but we've never actually spent the night. We were in a nice hotel with a balcony facing the beach. But the kids are excited to just be in any hotel room. They always see it as an adventure.

The indoor carousel is right next to our favorite Chinese restaurant, so it was a fun night for all of us.
The next day we headed down to the main street to have some fun in the arcades.
When we went outside, we caught a small parade for the local beauty queens. We had seen a marquis saying that "Miss Oregon" was in town, and we saw an SUV in the parking lot outside the Chinese restaurant with a big tiara on top of it. But apparently this was a parade to celebrate all the local pageant winners - "Miss Coos County", "Miss North Bend". I'm not into that stuff, but I love the idea of a local celebration in a small town with onlookers clapping for regular people.
The next day we headed out to the beach. The weather was mild, so pretty comfortable. The water is cold enough that you just want to wade in it - definitely not swim. The kids love running into the shallow waves and digging in the sand.
Later we headed back into town to enjoy some vegan ice cream.
Ronan was so funny. He seemed to get crazy from the sugar...
We drove back home on Sunday morning, so we had another two full days to enjoy at home during the Fourth of July break. We had fun at home with a barbecue and a family hot tub. Then in the evening on the Fourth, we set off some driveway fireworks. The kids had a great time!
