Tonight the kids' school hosted an early Halloween celebration called "Trunk or Treat". About 40 cars lined up on the field outside the school with decorated cars, ready to hand out candy from their trunks. It was extremely well-attended.

We volunteered to be one of the cars handing out candy. We grabbed some of the decorations from our "Halloween room" and presented a creepy carnival theme.
Fortunately, Grammy was visiting so she got to participate.
The kids wore their chosen Halloween outfits. Brielle wanted to be a tiger and got an elaborate, full-body costume. Ronan has been obsessed with checking the mail and hoping for packages, so it seemed appropriate that he would choose to be a UPS delivery driver. He was so cute - many people commented on his costume.

The kids enjoyed walking around to visit the cars, each of which was impressively decorated with a different theme. But they also liked hanging out at our car and giving out candy.
We were given three large bags of candy from donations to the school, but hundreds of kids showed up, so we ended up also going through our own stash of Halloween candy and ran out before the event was over. But it seemed like the kids got plenty of candy and had a great time. The kids got to see their friends and play on the playground as well.
And we still have the "real" Halloween to look forward to. Already, the kids have experienced a lot more than they ever did in Portland for this holiday. For one thing, it wasn't pouring rain. It was about 70 degrees with clear skies and perfect. We're looking forward to another fun Halloween experience in a few days.
