Happy New Year 2020

After the Christmas celebrations were completed, the kids had a week to enjoy playing with their new toys. We took the hoverboard they got from Granddad to the park. But they've actually ended up playing with it more often inside of the house. Ronan has decided to stop walking and just glides through the house now. We can tell when he's about to emerge from his room in the morning because we'll hear the "beep beep" of the hoverboard being turned on. Then he glides into the kitchen!

For New Year's Eve we decided to attend the St. Augustine Beach Blast-Off for the first time. We were able to take a shuttle bus from the large church next to our neighborhood. The beach pier area was filled with inflatables and games for kids, food and drink booths, and a stage with local bands. The kids got to enjoy kettle corn and cotton candy.

After years of experience mastering this inflatable challenge at Pump It Up in Oregon, the kids impressed the crowd and received cheers. Every other kid we saw fell off of this within a few seconds.

When it was time for the fireworks we moved out the the dry splash pad next to the beach. Many people had chairs set up on the sand to get a front-row view of the fireworks over the ocean. Although you won't hear it in this video, I learned that I leave behind my normally reserved self to yell out with joy during two public events - roller coasters and fireworks!

The only part we didn't like (other than the long wait for the shuttle bus at the end) was the music. It wasn't that the performers weren't talented - it was just a terrible choice of songs, in our opinion. However, this one act we witnessed on our way out was pretty amusing. Heavy metal guys in sequin jackets singing a Madonna song...

Happy New Year 2020 everyone!
