Ronan decided to celebrate his 10th birthday with just family celebrations and a trip to his favorite water park resort hotel in Orlando. First was an early birthday celebration with Granddad and Sujata!
Sujata gave him her own drawings and a great selection of books.
The kids were excited to try them out.
His actual birthday was the day before we left for Orlando, so we had the whole day to open and play with gifts.
As usual, Ginny was excited to participate, climb onto boxes, and crawl into empty gift bags.
Ronan received wonderful gifts from family members, and the kids let me take photos to send thank-you emails
After checking into the hotel, we had a little bit of time to ride the slides before dinner. I was participating with the kids, so no photos yet. For dinner we walked to a nearby Ethiopian restaurant, which was excellent. We've been to almost 20 Ethiopian restaurants in many different cities, and we'd say that this is the most delicious one!
I can't help but take stock photos...On the walk back, I showed the kids what a "pay phone" is. It looks like this one has been broken for a while.
On our way into town, we stopped by a vegan restaurant/bakery and picked up delicious desserts to enjoy later.
In the evening we headed back out to the waterpark. We were really lucky that we didn't experience a thunderstorm that day.
The kids liked to start in the "kiddie" area with the small slides and splash pads.
Then it was on to the large slides outside. Two require tubes, including this really fun red one that drops you down then sends you up a ramp before you slide down backwards through a waterfall.
The next morning we had about a half hour of water park time before a lightning warning was called and all of the pools and slides were closed. This sent a lot of people, including us, into the arcade right by the pools.
After lunch, we were able to spend the rest of the day and evening riding slides and hanging out in the pools again.
Coco Key Resort is such a great get-away, and we all had a wonderful time. Thank you for the birthday wishes and gifts for Ronan!
