Amazingly, we've just had several days of sunshine in a row in Portland. Seemed like a great day to take Brielle out for her first trip to the zoo!
This was also the first time that Brielle rode the MAX train. The zoo is only one stop away from our house, and we knew parking would be crazy on a sunny weekend so it was better to go there by train. Brielle enjoyed looking out the window and smiling at other riders.
The zoo was very busy, and most of the animals were napping (we started calling it the "lazy zoo"), but we all had a great time. Daddy took her out of her stroller and held her up to help her see.
I thought that the monkeys might be her favorites, but only one was up and about.
Sometimes Brielle was more interested in looking at the other babies and young children around her. She's never been around so many young people before.
Her first big moment of excitement came when she got to see an elephant up close. She watched intently and made little noises as the elephant walked near her.
She also enjoyed seeing the lions...
...and zebras...
We spent a lot of time watching the tiger...
I love this series of photos I took where Brielle and Daddy are sharing the same expressions. They look so alike!

Brielle's favorite part of the day actually occurred during a break we took on a grassy field. We put down a blanket for Brielle to play on, but she was much more interested in the grass. Since it's been a cold, wet winter, this was actually the first time we've had her outside on ground that has had several days in the sun to dry. It was a perfect opportunity for her to explore.
She walked around with Mommy and Daddy...
...and crawled rapidly over the lawn, letting out burst of laughter.
