Brielle turned 9 years old this week! In a way it does feel like we've known her for 9 years. But it's also strange to know that we have strong memories from being 9 and she's now creating her own memories for what it's like for her to be at this age.

We started her birthday celebration a little early with a visit to Granddad and Sujata. This time it was really special because the kids had their first sleepover at Sujata's house!

They had a great time and the kids were reportedly very well behaved. Back at Granddad's house, Brielle got to open a big gift from Granddad.
She received a gift she really wanted - Tyler the robot tiger. She's really into tigers now, so that was her birthday party theme.
The weekend before her birthday, Brielle had her first slumber party. A couple of years ago, she had asked us what age she needed to be to have a sleepover. We decided to tell her "9"...and she didn't forget that. Five good friends came over, and Ronan joined them as well. They played in the heated spa and pool in the evening and the next morning. Each person made his or her own pizza for dinner and painted their own hats with fabric paint.
They gave Brielle some great, fun gifts.
Later on they enjoyed tiger-patterned cupcakes and toasted Brielle for her birthday.
Before going to bed, Brielle and Ronan showed the girls how they do their nighttime dance party.
The girls stayed up too late, of course, but it was fun to see that they were doing MadLibs, just like I used to do at my childhood slumber parties. The next morning we all had vegan pancakes. It was a little hectic at times, and we were constantly working to make it happen, but we were so happy Brielle and her friends had a great party.
Soon after, Grandma Pat came for a visit!
On Brielle's real birthday, we let her open her gifts from family. She received some wonderful things. We went to dinner at a restaurant that sells amazing deep fried pickles.
We had some unlucky weather while Grandma Pat was here, including cooler temperatures, high wind warnings, and even a tornado watch. So part of her visit we enjoyed just hanging out at home and in the hot tub. In the evenings she enjoyed hanging out with the kids, including participating in their nightly dance party.
When the winds calmed down, we did make it out the the beach, where the kids loved running around on the white sands. Kraig and I also did some outings with Grandma Pat while the kids were at school, like going out to the pier and into Old Town.

We think that Brielle had a great birthday. Brielle thanks everyone for the birthday gifts. And thank you, Grandma Pat, for another amazing visit!
