For spring break, we took a road trip down to south Florida to visit Monica! She hasn't seen Brielle since she was a baby (remember the famous photo of Brielle throwing her baby bottle at Monica's daughter, Mia: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgklECN0LCSNFzpJ4q0-kF4UbMlYWm5u39nBAwasTQ57wEb7dYSslBrn9kNsR41P90MKU7loKNsjaKmqHDK6_rke63bkeV8wTF_yf8WiXBVM8mQ1XYgvuKCMxzadEm48BkBOpF0qRVKbVs/s1600/Mia+Brielle+12+mo+3.JPG.jpg). And this was the first time she and Ronan got to meet each other. Monica was kind enough to let us stay at her house for three nights, and she joined us for day trips around the area.
Our first outing was to Monica's local beach. We loved the turquoise water!
The water was a little wild. The kids kept challenging the waves to come at them then ran away quickly.

Monica's a photographer, so we actually got a lot of family photos this trip! Thanks, Monica!
Our first full day there we enjoyed a relaxing day at Monica's place.

The kids were thrilled that Monica had friendly cats for them to play with! Here's beautiful "Nolan":
Her gated community is on the intracoastal waterway.
The kids had fun swimming in the pool with Monica.
Ethiopian food!
Monica got art supplies for the kids to enjoy.

Kraig and the kids have never seen Miami, so we did a drive through the Art Deco district of Miami Beach to see the architecture.

From there, we drove down to Key Largo - the closest of the Florida Keys. We'll get down to Key West on some future trip - it's surprisingly far away!
The beach was rocky and not for swimming, but it was pretty and interesting to see. The rocks on the beach are actually pieces of dead coral!

The girls took a bathroom selfie.
We also walked around to explore and take a nature hike.

The most surprising part of the visit was finding a large iguana burrowed in a hole in a playground!
On the way home, we decided to stop part-way to visit an aquarium in Port St. Lucie. It was small, but very well done with aquariums, hands-on exhibits, microscopes, and other educational activities.
The cutest part was when Ronan was excited by seeing these two fish. He said, "This is the first time I've seen Nemo and Dory in real life!"
And, of course, we visited the playground in the park behind the aquarium.
Our spring break plans were kind of last-minute and spontaneous, but we had a wonderful time!
