Ronan turned 10 months old this week! Unfortunately the months feel like they're getting faster and faster. Ronan is known at school for his sweet hugs and amazing smile. When I go to pick him up, the teachers call out to him to let him know I'm there. I think they do that so that they can see his dramatic reaction when he turns around and sees me. He flashes a huge grin and crawls over quickly to give me hugs and big wet kisses. Unless he's feeling sick or over-tired, he has a super sweet, happy demeanor.
At his 9-month pediatrician appointment, they gave Ronan a food allergy test in another attempt to try to figure out why his nose has been stuffy his whole life. It took over two weeks to get the results, which indicated that he seems to be "developing sensitivities" to soy, wheat, oats, and almonds. The levels on the test were low, but that might be because he's so young and hasn't had time to build up many antibodies yet. The suggestion was for the two of us to avoid these products for at least 2, and maybe several, months. We can see if his nose clears up (although he's had a cold, so I can't tell yet), and staying away from the products for a period can reverse the sensitization. So, goodbye tofu and pasta, and hello quinoa and rice cheese for Mommy. I really hope this works.
The highlight of the past month was a trip down to Bandon to visit Grammy and Kelly.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and we enjoyed playing in the sun on their back deck.
Ronan enjoyed crawling all over the house and playing with the toys Grammy got the kids. He was particularly interested in playing with the balls and watching Brielle everything Brielle did.
It wasn't too challenging to travel with Ronan yet because he's not yet walking. He can definitely make take steps if we're holding his hands, and he really enjoys that. He can crawl really fast, though, and he loves pushing off things in order to stand up on his own for a few seconds. He gets a really large grin on his face and flaps his hands with pride while he's standing on his own.
Back at home, one of his favorite things to do is to play with open doors or baby gates. He's absolutely obsessed with them. He sits down and opens and closes them. If he sees that a gate or door is left open, he immediately crawls over quickly to play with it.
Another tradition in Bandon is visiting Grammy's neighbor, June's, house, with its immaculate landscaped yard and her warm kindness.
Yet another tradition is taking the boats out for a ride on the lake.
It was Ronan's first time riding on a boat, and he was not at all happy with the safety preparations.
Brielle, on the other hand, is already a pro.
Ronan, Grammy, and Mommy rode a second boat. Ronan had resisted the safety vest, but it was probably because he was tired. After less than a minute after getting strapped in, the vest seemed to act as a swaddle and he immediately fell asleep. He slept through his whole first boating experience.
In Bandon, we also had a fun visit with Grandpa Taylor and Linda. They gave the kids gifts, including a stuffed toy for Ronan...
...and a guitar and microphone for Brielle...who immediately showed off her star power.
With Grammy and Kelly available to play with the kids, Mommy and Daddy took some time to themselves to enjoy the beach views.
Everyone (except Mommy and Ronan, who was napping) enjoyed a fun visit to the beach, taking advantage of the fantastic weather.
In the evening, Daddy and Mommy enjoyed a night out to themselves.
The hot spot in Bandon? Oregon Lottery video poker at a local establishment. Mommy got 4-of-a kind twice!
On our final day in Bandon we celebrated Mother's Day for Grammy with a gift.
Back at home, the weather remained fantastic for a few more days. Mommy and Brielle went to a local park with water fountains.
