Grammy, Kelly, and more Ginny

Last weekend, Grammy and Kelly came for a visit! The kids quickly put Kelly to work.

Grammy also had a lot of fun with the kids and read them bedtime stories at night.

Ronan helped Emmett and his favorite lion share a kiss.
Grammy and Kelly were nice enough to take care of the kids while Kraig and I snuck out to Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel. They also gave us an early anniversary gift. At 13 years it's traditional to give silk or linens, so they got us some towels! Ronan thought it would be fun to wear them on our heads.

Kelly got to come with me to watch one of Brielle's Taekwondo classes. We tested for our brown belts about a month ago.

Grammy and Kelly were excited to meet Ginny. Emmett has always come to our house when they visit, and he was quite surprised to see a new furry friend. He was fine with Ginny - in fact, he didn't pay much attention to her. However, Ginny was very focused on Emmett and a little concerned at first. She acted tough when he got too close and frightened him a few times. But it did seem like she wanted to play with him at the same time. She followed him around all over the house.

Eventually she chilled out and even enjoyed sleeping next to him. How sweet!

Ginny has been amazing. She's extremely tolerant of the kids' energy and is very excited to play with them when they get home from school. They love playing with her too - I have to get them to stop to eat breakfast so we're not late for school.

The kids can really wear her out, so it's lucky there are plenty of places in the house to escape (she loves sleeping on the bar in the library). But most of the time she actually prefers to sleep wherever the family is, even if it's loud or they keep petting her awake.

Our only complaint about Ginny is that she wakes us up early in the morning. We finally have the two kids sometimes sleeping until a decent hour (if 7:30 a.m. is decent), and now the youngest kid is waking us up! Kraig gets it worse because she's in love with him. She jumps on him several times during the night. She doesn't usually come over to me until 5-something a.m., and she's good about just sleeping next to me...until the meowing starts at 6-something. Obviously we've been letting her sleep in our room. We didn't want her getting lonely and meowing in the hallway, waking up the kids too early.  We're trying out different arrangements, so we'll figure something out.

Ginny is also funny about lap time. The only time I really sit down on the couch for a period of time is late at night after the kids have gone to bed - like now, when I'm doing something on the computer, like updating the blog. Sometimes she'll join me, but sometimes she doesn't seem to want to be here. However, at other times, like during the day when I'm trying to run around getting stuff done in the house, that's when she wants to anchor me to the couch. I've really missed having a cat on my lap the past few years, and we're so lucky that we found a loving lap-cat. But it also makes me realize that when we had Icky and Loco, we also had more free time to do things like sit around with a cat on our laps. Still, whenever possible, I'll try to prioritize her and share my lap. She's so soft and sweet, and she purrs so loud when she's on me. We're very lucky.
